Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 August 2026
This policy explains what personal information Avian Action collects when you visit avianaction.com or buy The Bird in Flight System, why it is collected, and what happens to it.
Avian Action is operated by Simen Bambic, Australian Business Number (ABN) 89 368 465 326, based in Victoria, Australia.
The short version
We collect the minimum needed to sell you a book and deliver it. We never see or store your card details. We do not sell your information to anyone, and we do not send marketing email unless you ask us to.
What we collect
When you buy something
- Your name and email address
- Your billing address and country
- Your order details and the amount paid
Your card number is entered directly into our payment provider's secure form. It never reaches our website and we never see or store it.
When you simply visit
- Standard server logs, including your IP address, browser and the pages you viewed
- Anonymous statistics about how far through the sales video people watch
When you contact us
If you write to us through our contact form, or reply to an email about your order, we keep your message and email address so we can reply and refer back to the conversation if you write again.
Why we collect it
- To process your order and take payment
- To deliver your book and send your receipt and download link
- To answer your questions and handle refund requests
- To keep records that Australian tax law requires us to keep
- To improve the website, using aggregate statistics rather than anything that identifies you
Who else is involved
Running an online shop means using other companies for specific jobs. Each one receives only what it needs:
- Stripe and PayPal process payments. They receive your name, email, billing address and card or account details. They are bound by their own privacy policies and by card industry security standards.
- Hostinger hosts this website and its database, which holds your order record.
- bunny.net delivers the book file to you. It sees the request for the file but not your name or order details.
- Mux hosts and delivers the video on the sales page, and records anonymous playback statistics such as how long the video took to start and how much of it was watched.
- CleanTalk filters spam from forms on this site.
Some of these companies are based outside Australia, which means your information may be stored or processed overseas, including in the United States and Europe.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to anybody. We will only disclose it where the law requires us to.
Cookies
This website uses cookies to remember what is in your shopping cart and to keep your session working while you check out. Payment providers may set their own cookies to detect fraud.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but the checkout will not work properly without them.
Email newsletter
We send an occasional newsletter with stories from the field, practical advice, and ideas related to photographing birds in flight. It is written to be useful rather than promotional.
You may receive it if you:
- bought The Bird in Flight System, in which case we add the email address you used at checkout, or
- signed up deliberately, through this website or a link shared elsewhere, such as on YouTube.
Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link. Click it once and you will receive no further newsletters. We do not ask why, and there is nothing else to do. If you would rather not be added at all, tell us through the contact form before or after your purchase and we will leave you off the list.
We send these messages using a third-party email service, which stores your email address and records whether messages were delivered and opened. Your address is never sold, rented or shared with anyone else.
Email about your own order — your receipt and download link — is separate. It is sent because you bought something, not for marketing, and it is not affected by unsubscribing from the newsletter.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept for at least five years, because Australian tax law requires it. Contact messages are kept for as long as they are useful, and deleted when they are not. Server logs are kept for a short period and then discarded.
Security
This website is served over an encrypted connection. Your book is delivered through links that expire, so a download link cannot be passed around indefinitely. Card details are handled entirely by our payment providers and never touch our systems.
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We can promise that we hold as little of your information as possible, which is the most effective protection there is.
Your choices
You can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you
- Correct anything that is wrong
- Delete your information, where we are not required by law to keep it
- Send you a copy of your information
Send your request through the contact form and we will respond within a reasonable time. There is no charge.
Children
This website is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated date at the top.
